The Granary (Hungry Horse)- By The Livi Pub Spy

This pub has changed a lot since I was last in, the décor has been refurbished and the whole place looks lighter and more pleasant. I never tried the food so I can’t comment on that, but the toilets are sparkling and the bar service by Claire was very good.

They have 3 TV’s placed around the bar so everyone can see easily and there is also large screen, pool table, jukebox and 2 fruit machines.

The beer was good and overall it was a nice atmosphere (especially when a party of women came in dressed as schoolgirls. Don’t know if my girlfriend agreed though!)

The Local, By The Livi Pub Spy

I visited the Local (No1 Beveridge Square, Dedridge, Livingston) and found it to be a clean and friendly place with excellent facilities. The toilets were sparkling and the staff very helpful. The new management have transformed the place into a family pub with a children’s play area, beer garden and superb menu. The lounge has been totally refurbished and renamed No.1 The Square and plays host to Colours.

The Livingston Inn…

Is quietly situated in Livingston Village and has a lounge and bar. The bar has 2 televisions of reasonable size, but no big screen.

There is a pool table and the service at the bar adequate and the beer good. Food and table service is reasonable in the lounge, its hard to get a real idea of what the pub is like at present as it is in the process of being taken over by a new landlord, so its only fair that these comments are reviewed when the new personnel have had time to make changes.

Food is served Mon - Thurs 12 - 2.30 and 5.30 - 9.30 Fri to Sun all day. The toilets are relatively clean, but the whole place would benefit from decoration and a good clean especially the burnt lampshades in the lounge.

The lack of background music in the lounge is a problem, as everyone has to whisper to avoid being overheard by others.

Football colours are NOT allowed in the bar, Tam one of the barmen said, “No Huns allowed” I wasn’t sure how to take that remark, but I think he’ll regret it now. There is a beer garden and children are allowed in the lounge.

There was a nice atmosphere when I visited Da Vincis, overall this is a good pub with a restaurant and hotel attached, the service at the bar is good (especially from Jean) and the beer and lager well kept. The lounge only opens in the evening from Thursday to Sunday, has a disco, and is usually busy. Good quality food is served from 12.00-2.30 and 5.30-9.00 all week except on Sunday when it is available all day.

The toilets were clean with locks on the doors, something of a rarity these days and there was hot water and soap but the hand drier takes for ever! The Roman Bar has a pool table and big screen, the only negative aspect is that when a function is on everyone gets moved through to the lounge with no pool table or big screen. There is disabled access and toilets.

No football colours are allowed, but for the sake of putting your scarf in your pocket and covering your top it’s well worth a visit - The Pub Spy.

The Ferns is a one of the few working man’s pubs left in Livingston, full of characters and friendly banter, a recent change of management (No longer Jim Innes) appears to have made a great difference to the general atmosphere with live bands and discos on a regular basis. A much maligned pub in recent years it now seems to have taken a turn for the better, and I would recommend anyone to drop in for a beer. The big screen, pool table and television cater for most sports enthusiasts, and there are cunning wee coat hooks under the bar for putting your jacket on.

The Nitespot is located in the Stadium under the North Stand. That’s the good point over with, now for the bad bit. The Nitespot is definitely one to avoid as it can take up to one hour to get served and the service is appalling, kids as far as I’m aware are allowed in. No pool table. The Cawburn Inn is a decent, clean and friendly pub with a public bar and lounge. There is a big screen, fruit machine and pool table in the bar. Food is served between 12.30 and 2.00 and my Lasagne was very enjoyable, the service was fast and efficient even during a Rangers Celtic game!

My only criticism was that the toilets could do with being upgraded or at least a seat on the Gents to start with, other than that the beer was good and the service friendly so I would recommend dropping in for a pint before or after a game.

The Seven Oaks is a bit dark and dingy; the place could do with a bit of a face-lift but for all that it serves good beer. Overall there is a tatty appearance to the place that is not enhanced by the toilet walls being decorated by newspaper!

Pool table in the bar as well as a T.V.

I never saw the Lounge but will try to take that in at a later date.

Located in the McArthur Glen part of the centre this establishment is typical of the big company owned pubs. There are a host of Televisions installed but they only show videos – no football! Everything is kept clean and tidy (except for the lack of toilet paper in the Men’s), when I was there beer and lager were £1.20 a pint until 8pm weekdays and 5pm at the weekends! Amazing but true, the prices are incredible! The service is very poor you have to wait for an eternity to get service.

Wee Martin behind the bar is the star of the show he battles against all odds to give you the best service he can. Food is available as long as you don’t mind waiting.

Most of customers seemed to be shoppers but I believe it gets very busy at the weekend.

If you don’t mind really slow service to get cheap beer this is a place to go.

The Tower, By Alison Ritchie

My view on the pub is that it has a great atmosphere, especially on football

days.

Because the majority of punters support Celtic and the rest rangers, an old

firm game is the best time to be in the pub.  There is never any trouble

between anyone as we are all mates at the end of the day.

There is also 2 nice function rooms upstairs for private party's ect.

All in all, I think it's one of the best community pubs in Livingston (and

I've been to quite a few)
