DBM update Xmas 2003

With Xmas almost upon us and a CIS Cup Semi Final to look forward to, here is an overdue run down of whats been happening.

An initial order for DBM merchandise has been put together and it's hoped to have 'DBM wear' available more widely after the new year. It's planned to have a page or two on this site with a catalogue of all items available including details on sizes and ordering. Thanks to those who have backed this idea so far by purchasing items such as: Long/Short sleeved DBM top, DBM Keepers top, DBM Fleece, DBM Hooded top, DBM Beanie Hat and DBM Baseball cap. Remember that any profit made goes directly to the ongoing 'Drum and Banner Fund'

Thanks to the 45 people who ordered the Limited Edition DBM Brasil tops! (Now kyboshed due to Marcio's rapid departure) ;)

At the recent Rangers home match that was televised by Setanta Sport, a crowd of fans representing the DBM were asked to go down to the stadium during the week of the game for an interview about the DBM. They were interested in how the drums came about at Livingston games and where the name DRUM BEAT MAFIA came from. This type of interview only goes to show the widespread recognition that the DBM have for their attempts to bring more colour and noise to Scottish Football.

With the Semi Final of the CIS Cup to be held at Easter Rd, on February the 3rd, plans are afoot for another good sized banner to take along. Let's hope the Livi faithful turn out in their numbers to give the team the backing it deserves!

Update on the DBM – Aug 28th

With the South Stand 'DBM' now firmly rooted in Section 'Z', it's about time for another short update.

Over the 'close season' a new DBM design was born in tribute to Livi's new Brasilian head coach Marcio Maximo Barcellas (He seems to like them! see above pic). Over 30 of these 70's style T-shirts have been snapped up with the new logo embroidered on the chest and chosen no. on the back. They are still available for a limited time. Contact eliburnlion@livilions.co.uk for more details.

The space that would normally hold an advertising hoarding at the back of Section 'Z' is now proudly sporting a 6m "FORZA LIVI" banner. Well done to Keithc and family for doing the hard work on that one!

New flags on show at the games include "BROXBURN LIONS", "MID CALDER LIONS", "WULSONS FOR LIVI" AND "ELIBURN LIONS ON TOUR". A tidy wee "LIVI AWAY" flag in Purple and White will be taken to all away games from now on too. These quality flags are due in no small part to the WULSONS giving up their time and skills to keep the conveyor belt of flags coming!

Approx 40 Gold and 40 Black have been made to be handed out in section 'Z' before each home game. If these prove popular, more will be made up. Watch out for them soon.

What do you think of these flags and banners? Do you think they add colour? Would you like to see more? Would you like to see one proudly sporting the name of the place you live? Why not let us know on the livilions messageboard? All comments welcome.

There are still 10 *STOP PRESS* 2 more sold *STOP PRESS* 8 pairs of LFC/DBM shades available to purchase. At only a fiver a pair, can you afford not to? :D Cheers, Plug

Update on the DBM – June 22nd

So section Z it is then! (new home for the Curva Sud DBM)

I think the club should be congratulated in allocating a section for the dedicated fans prepared to make that bit more of an effort to up the atmosphere at the games with a touch of colour and of course, the drums.
It's unfortunate that it is probably the last place in the stadium that most people would have chosen if given an option, but it is somewhere the DBM can call home for the whole season, without having to split up and move around when the big boys come to town.
The continuing aim is to encourage more/all Livi fans to join in and be a bit more vocal in their support of the team on the park. If even this wind swept corner of the stadium can be seen to be jumping, folk might realise that it's more fun to join in than to sit quietly, eating boiled sweets.

Update on the DBM – May 03

We start off with the visit to Easter Rd on the 12th of April. The Hibs board took the decision to ban the Livingston drummers from their Stadium after complaints from Hibs fans. Apparently they make too much noise and were bugging the Hibs fans. In my opinion, if the Hibs fans actually made some noise themselves and supported their team a bit more loudly, then they wouldn’t have to bleat to their board that they bad Livi Drummers spoil it for them. The decision to ban the Livi drummers attracted quite a bit of local and national press coverage in the newspapers and on radio. The stewards on the day were first class and were more than happy to let us display our banners over seats in an area unused by fans. Several Livi fans took advantage of the Easter Road ground regulation that allows the use of small flags as long as they are held on garden canes of no more than 1m in length. I enjoyed waving mine like a big kid when the last minute equalizer went in!

Next up was the journey north to Pittodrie on the 26th April. Again no problems displaying the banners over a section of idle seats. In fact, one particular steward went out of his way to help us get them tied down. Well done Sir! For a short time during the first half, few flags on canes were waved until the same steward told us that he had been asked to take the canes from us. He said to just put them under our seats and take them home after the game. I can’t see the problem myself, but during whilst a game is playing, arguing the point would get you nowhere. The game was a bit disappointing, with Livi hitting woodwork 3 times and the Dons securing a 1-0 win. It was good to see relations between the Aberdeen Red Ultras and the Livi DBM grow at this game with one or 2 positive comments on the Red Ultras messageboards. Cheers Lads

Next up were 3 home games in a row. Partick Thistle, Dundee Utd and Hibs. With the DBM still looking for an area at Almondvale to call its own, we usually have to try and find a spot to lay out the banners, get the drummers a decent seat and let folk know where in the South or East stands we are sitting. So far we have had a bit of success in the East stand with people generally expecting us there or there abouts. A not bad 3-1 win over Thistle, a poor 1-2 defeat by Utd and defeat again by the Hibs rounded of our home games at Almondvale for another season. One good thing was the return to our traditional Black and Amber colours for the Hibs game (and next season). Hopefully the club will look at giving the DBM a dedicated area in the ground where it can rally the fans and get them all to make a bit more noise in support of the team.

The final game of the season was the debacle away to Motherwell. A large and loud Livi support sat through an embarrassing 6-2 hammering. A youthful and injury hit Livi side couldn’t compete over the 90 mins against a ‘Well side free of the spectre of relegation. Again the banners were displayed over unused seats and Fir Park was subjected to a right good ‘foiling’ too. ‘Wells safety officer took time to correspond with about the banners and their point of view on them.

That’s it for the 02/03 season. During the close season we will be speaking to LFC about the proposed DBM section and about ways to display the current (and more!) banners inside the stadium. It’s a learning curve we are on just now, so if you have any suggestions then let us know!

Recent Updates

Update on the DBM – April 03

After the successful race night, which was held at St.Andrews Lodge, Deans, Livingston, enough money was raised in total to pay for 2 massive banners to have on display at all Livi games. The larger of the 2 banners measures in at 45’ by 15’, with the wee one measuring 30’ by 5’. These banners will soon become as much a part of the Livi matchday experience as the drums have become.
The race night was attended by nearly 100 folk who had a great laugh whilst betting on a few horse races and enjoying a good few drinks.

The DBM banners

Plans are afoot to make smaller and more easily manageable flags available soon. We are just working out sizes, materials, and colours.

Details will be available soon, so keep yer eyes peeled!

Remember, the DBM is not all about who is a better or more vocal Livi fan, but is about encouraging more fans to join in with the drums and make supporting Livingston FC a more ‘Colourful’ experience. Let’s make some noise! :o)
