Livi boss Allan Preston is already preparing his side for extra-time and penalties ahead of the CIS Insurance Cup third round tie against Dundee at Almondvale Stadium tonight.
Preston is convinced there is so little between the two teams that 90 minutes might not separate them as the goalless draw in the league proved at the weekend.
Preston will use last season's semi-final win over the Dark Blues as an omen but concedes the tie may have to be prolonged before either team reach the last eight.
He said: "We still haven't beaten Dundee in the SPL, although I thought we could have sneaked it on Saturday, and that CIS Cup semi-final is the only time we have.
"It's still a great memory for me. People say there was no bigger time to beat them and that is true but, it's going to be a difficult game at Almondvale.
"Both our squads are quite small so there won't be any secrets about personnel and no great shifting about in term of tactics.
"Therefore, the possibility of extra-time and penalties is something we need to address, and deal with if it happens. "We've saved the players' legs in training and we've been practising our penalties as we did in the last two rounds.
"But Derek Lilley practises his penalties before every game (maybe he should practice heading the ball).
"We've not picked our first five takers yet, we'll just ask them to step forward on the night."
The Livi boss admits a second game against the Dees in four days presents a problem in motivation, a problem that the Lions had last season when they went undefeated against Aberdeen.
But Preston has contingency plans to conquer the possibility of repetition.
He said: "It was the same scenario last season when we played Aberdeen seven times in the league and cups.
"So I'll try and change things around as much as possible in terms of preparations and team talks to keep it fresh.
"I usually take the warm up before games, but I didn't against Dundee at the weekend just to be a little different.
"Also, I don't believe in talking for 20 minutes before the game because players just switch off. I know because I did it myself when I was a player.
"You've got to keep it short and sharp and after the game is the time you can talk about things."
Livi defender David McNamee, sent off against Dundee at the weekend, is available for the CIS Cup.
But striker Steven Boyack and defender Gus Bahoken are still out.
Who cares about Dundee but we better give them a mention. They will be without midfielder Jonay Hernandez as the Venezuela international has a kidney infection and is unavailable.
Defender Lee Wilkie is a long-term injury victim (the big diddy is a liability), while goalkeeper Kelvin Jack will be on the bench despite carrying a knee problem.
Steven McNally is added to Dundee’s squad for the trip to West Lothian.
