With the match finely balanced at 2-2, Livingston were incensed at referee Craig Thomson's failure to award a spot kick, with Motherwell defender William Kinniburgh later admitting he had handled as he stumbled attempting a diving header.

Minutes later, Well snatched the winner through Richie Foran to leave the Lions with just one win in the league this season, that was a 3-0 win over Caley Thistle at the start of the season.

Hamilton said: "Everybody saw it as a stonewall penalty and it changed the run of the game because they went up the other end and scored, it was a shocking decision.

"If we had got the penalty and gone 3-2 up it would have been something to hold on to. We got a bit of luck in the first half with the goals but I think our luck had run out by then.

"But we've just got to keep fighting, it's the only way out of the wee hole we are in."
