Both players played for Blackburn Rovers and St Mirren, the twosome have moved in partnership throughout their career, winging their way to West Lothian in the summer of 2002.

McNamee, a right-back capped twice by former Scotland boss Berti Vogts, and left-footed central midfielder O'Brien, who controversially turned his back on Scotland to turn out for South Africa despite picking up under-21 caps for the Scots, are both out of contract in the summer, and with new Livingston boss Richard Gough keen to offload the 'uncommitted' players, Royle could be set to swoop to freshen up in two positions where age is becoming a factor.

It is however seen as unlikely that the pairing would be keen on a move back down south unless they were given assurances regarding first-team football, following their troubled spell at Blackburn, where only O'Brien turned out for the first team, albeit only on one occasion.

A host of other clubs are also said to be monitoring the situation, namely Hearts, Celtic, and Aberdeen.
