The Lions wanted to play the tie as early as possible due to the fact they are travelling north to play Aberdeen that weekend.

Boss Allan Preston revealed he was disappointed at the decision but admitted Stirling had only exercised their rights as the home team.

He said: "We wanted to play on the Tuesday because we’re travelling up to Aberdeen next Friday but it wasn’t to be, so be it.

"We asked for Tuesday and Stirling asked for Wednesday - it’s their home tie so we can’t really complain. We’re looking forward to the game in any case. It will be nice to run out as CIS Cup holders - it will be a new feeling for everyone."

Preston will spend the remainder of this week picking up his players from the disappointment of the 4-0 defeat to Rangers on Saturday. He was unhappy with the manner in which his side capitulated at Ibrox but insisted team spirit remained good in advance of this weekend’s home clash with Dundee United.

He said: "The boys are fine. It was a hard one to take, but when you go there and play as we did then that’s what can happen.

"Rangers actually didn’t have too many shots on target but they got their goals too easily. We have to learn from that but we’ve also got to put it behind us."

Craig Easton took a knee in the back against Rangers but Preston is hopeful he will be fit to face his former team at Almondvale on Saturday.
