Livingston 0 Rangers 0

A fantastic Livingston display saw them draw 0-0 with the Scottish Chumpions at Almondvale today (Saturday). Lee Makel saw his first half penalty luckily saved by Stefanny Klos.

Livingston had all of the play and should have capitalised, but at the end, a draw was a fair result. Livi did have the ball in the back of the net, but the David McNamee goal chopped off after Hugh Dallas ruled that the Livi defender had handled the ball prior to him scoring.

Livingston caretaker manager Davie Hay has refused to blame midfielder Makel for missing the penalty kick that might have downed tottering champions Rangers as their match finished 0-0. Hay said: "You either score penalties or you miss them and he missed them.

But I'm not blaming Lee. He would rather, obviously, have scored but he actually played quite well afterwards.'' Makel was philosophical - and also claimed he should have been handed another chance from 12 yards just before half-time.

Hay added said: "It was a good save but I should have scored. You should always score a penalty I suppose but it was a top-class save.

"I hit it well and it was going right in the corner but he guessed the right way. It was just one of those things "I definitely should have had another penalty. I cut inside and was just going to shoot and then someone - I think it was Craig Moore - stepped in my path.

"If that is not a penalty then I do not know what is. The referee just looked at me and because I had already been booked I thought he was going to send me off, which would have been harsh to say the least. "It is very rarely that teams get two penalties against the Old Firm.''

The match ended goalless and Hay was understandably happier with that result than his Rangers counter-part Alex McLeish. He said: "I thought the performance, effort and commitment was what I asked for and I think we merited a point.

"I think a draw was the correct result. We had a chance with a penalty in the first half and then Capucho could have scored at the end.''
