Lovell faces long spell out

The Lions preparations for the new season have been hit by the news that captain Stuart Lovell might be facing two months out injured. Lovell was due to have a scan today on his right knee, which was injured in last month’s Annan tournament, a tournament that has been a total waste of time for the Lions..

The Austrailian has no chance of being fit for Saturday’s SPL opener at Partick and Livi coach Allan Preston that they think that Stuart will be out for much longer.

Preston said: "Stuart is due to go for a scan on his ‘good’ knee today and if as we suspect it’s a cartilage problem then he’ll be out for six to eight weeks.

"It’s a blow because he’s an important player for us and we’ve had a few problems in midfield this pre-season."

Joining the injured Lovell on the sidelines last night were fellow midfielders Quino (Achilles and ankle problems) and the man that is always injuring himself on the park, Cherif Toure Maman (groin strain).

Quino has been fighting Achilles and ankle problems, while Maman has been hampered by a groin strain. Canadian striker Davide Xausa was also absent with a bug, but Preston is hopeful all three will be ready for the visit to Firhill.

He said: "Cherif wasn’t quite ready last night but he has a good chance of being ready for the Partick game. "Quino came through a training session without any problems and he should also be in contention for the weekend.

"Davide called off with a bug before the Fulham game but we’re hopeful he’ll be okay."
