Ally McCoist
Former Rangers and Kilmarnock striker McCoist has been out of the game since calling it a day three years ago and has carved out a successful TV career.

However, after completing his advanced coaching badge at Rangers' Murray Park this summer, the 41--year-old is keen to get back on to the training pitches again.

Preston has kept in touch with Coisty throughout the summer and hopes to meet him when he returns from Canada later in the month.

He said: 'Ally's in Vancouver at the moment but he's due back in the latter part of this week and he's going to give me a dog and bone when he gets back.

'It's something we've been talking about for a while but we'll speak about things again and take it from there.'

Meanwhile, Preston has backed summer signing Goran Stanic to make a greater impact at the club once he returns to full fitness. The Macedonian international defender picked up a thigh strain during pre-season and has yet to make his competitive debut.

However, the 31-year-old was one of a handful of first-team stars who played in yesterday's reserve win over Dundee United Tannadice.

And Preston added: 'Goran needs to get back playing and the more games he can get under his belt, the better.'
