Preston to give duo late fitness tests

Neither player trained yesterday after McNamee picked up an ankle injury in Sunday’s 4-2 defeat by Celtic, while Snodgrass has his foot heavily strapped after it was stood on during the same match. Both players will be given to the last minute to try and prove their fitness, writes MARK BONTHRONE of the Edinburgh Evening News.

Definitely out for the Lions, however, is midfielder Jason Dair who is still struggling with a thigh injury. The former Motherwell player underwent a scan on the problem that has caused him to miss Livingston’s last three matches and although it confirmed there is no serious damage he is not yet fit enough for a return to the first team.

"McNamee is struggling and we are giving him to the last minute to try and make the game," said Preston. "Young Robert Snodgrass has had to have his foot strapped up after he had it stood on but we are a little more hopeful with him.

"Jason Dair was given the all-clear on a scan on his thigh which is good news but he won’t be considered for tonight’s game, while Steven Boyack is in the same position as he has only just returned to training recently."

And Preston believes one player’s misfortune can give another a chance to stake a claim for a regular place in his starting XI.

"On Sunday Scott McLaughlin came in for the first time in a long time and Richard Brittain also came in and played the second half. Neither did themselves any harm at all but we will have to wait until the last minute before making any decision."
