Striker Jim Hamilton insists he showed tremendous "bottle" to take the last minute penalty which brought the Lions back from the dead against Dundee in their CIS Insurance Cup third round tie at Almondvale.

With only seconds remaining of the two minutes of injury time referee Iain Brines had added on, Dundee were leading through a Steven Robb goal and looking likely to knock out the cup holders.

But substitute Hamilton, on earlier for Craig Easton, was brought down in the box by Dundee defender Brent Sancho and keeper Derek Soutar to give the home side a chance to take the game into extra-time, much to the delight of the home support.

Hamilton confidently grabbed the ball and stuck the spot kick in the corner and compounded the Taysiders' misery when he headed home an unlikely winner in the second period of extra-time.

The players get ready for Extra Time

The former Dundee United and Aberdeen player insists there was no way he was going to miss the vital penalty, with so much at stake.

He said: "When you come on at 1-0 down you will take anything. Obviously we left it really late but we are going to accept it. It was definitely a penalty

"And there was nobody else getting the ball. You can be a hero or a villain but I had the confidence and the bottle to step up and take it and luckily enough it went in the net.

Hammy at the end

"I think that gave us a big lift going into extra-time. We were on a high when we scored the goal and obviously it is a kick in the teeth for them.

"You are always happy with any goal and it was nice to score the second one the way I did but a goal is a goal in my book.

"To be fair, they played well over the 90 minutes although we maybe battered them a bit in the last 10. But I think there was only going to be one winner when it went into extra time."
