League leaders Livingston cashed in on sloppy defending to shock Gretna with a fifth minute goal. James McQuilken and Martin Canning both attempted to clear a ball played along the edge of Gretna's area but only succeeded in hitting Livi front man Steven Craig, who gratefully poked the loose ball pass keeper Alan Main from 10 yards.

As Gretna fought to get back on terms, Kenny Deuchar headed inches over and David Graham rolled a couple of tackles before lifting a shot over from seven yards.

Craig Wight turned an Allan Jenkins header rounded the post and Deuchar headed narrowly wide before Gretna equalised from a 32nd minute corner. The keeper did well to palm out Ryan McGuffie's powerful header but only as far as Derek Townsley, who planted a header beyond his reach.

Despite all their possession, Gretna were rescued by a goal-cline clearance by Jenkins a minute before half time. It looked suspiciously like Main was impeded as he attempted to reach a high ball into the crowded goal mouth, and Craig's header was bound for the net before Jenkins popped up on the line.

Livi dictated for 15 minutes after the break, but keeper Wight was at full stretch from a Gretna breakway to turn away Neil MacFarlane's shot one handed.

But substitute Paul Shields fluffed the chance to put the visitors back in front with his first touch of the ball. Craig controlled Lee Makel's long ball and hit a dipping shot against Gretna's bar, and as the ball came back out Shields headed over the open goal.
