A goal in each half from Derek Lilley gave new Livingston manager Davie Hay a winning start.

Lilley shot Livingston ahead late in the first half and put the result beyond doubt with another crisp finish with eight minutes left.

Both teams observed a minute's silence before kick-off in memory of Hibs' legendary striker Joe Baker who died earlier this month.

Hibs failed to come up with anything remotely approaching their glory years in the first half as they toiled to make an impression.

Daniel Andersson made a fine stop from Marvin Andrews after seven minutes when Colin Murdock had misplaced a clearance but when David Fernandez nodded in the loose ball, he was clearly offside and the goal was disallowed.

Livingston had a narrow escape at the other end when goalkeeper Roddy McKenzie missed his punch at a corner but his defenders somehow scrambled the ball clear.

Livingston controlled the first half and the lively Fernandez saw a 20-yard shot comfortably saved by Andersson.

The breakthrough came eight minutes from the break when Murdock was caught in possession at the edge of his own area by Fernandez.

The Spanish striker played a perfect through pass for Derek Lilley who drove a low shot past Andersson from 16 yards.

Hibs hit back in the second half and a long-range shot from Alen Orman was just inches wide of target.

Grant Brebner also came close with a near-post header, but the home side were prone to defensive lapses.

Murdock was caught again by Fernandez but this time Lilley was wayward with his final shot.

Fernandez had a better chance in the 77th minute but shot straight at Andersson.

Lilley assured Livingston of the points five minutes later when Lee Makel picked him out and he slid the ball past the advancing Andersson.
