Kilmarnock 0 Livingston 3 Match Report

Last updated : 21 December 2003 By Dov
The Dundee United versus Partick match had already been called off due to a waterlogged pitch, so that just shows you had bad the weather had been over the last 24 hours. The official attendance was quoted at being 5035, but take 1035 off of that and you will probably have the real attendance.

Livingston got an early chance to put pressure on the Killie defence when they won an early free kick after Fernando Pasquinelli was fouled on the left hand side. Lee Makel took the free kick but the Killie goalie Dubourdeau easily grasped the ball unchallenged. An early chance for Livingston, but the attackers should be putting more pressure on the Killie goalkeeper.

Kilmarnock supporters thought that they should have had a penalty in the fourth minute when Stephen Murray went down after Marvin Andrews brushed him aside but referee Charlie Richmond rightly waved play on much to the anger of the Weedgy Wannabies.

Kilmarnock had a chance to open the scoring in the seventh minute when Murray got into a great position, he pulled the ball back but Livi keeper Roddy McKenzie spilled the ball but Rubio was on hand to clear the ball for a corner before Nish could strike.

The Kilmarnock supporters were wanting blood at this point and every time Marvin Andrews challenged for the ball, the Killie supporters were crying out for a foul.

Hay and Murray were punishing Livi down the left hand side, but Alan Preston and co must have changed things around, as the Livingston defenders started to get to grips with the threat.

Livingston had a chance on the half hour mark when McNamee broke thorough the Killie midfield, he had Lilley and Pasquinelli in support, but he decided to go alone, but he saw his well driven shot well saved by Dubourdeau in the Kilmarnock goal.

Livingston were then threatening at this stage, and Lee Makel fed the ball to Stuart Lovell, but Lovell saw his shot sail well over the bar. It was the last chance of the match, and most supporters were happy to hear the half time whistle so they could go and get a pie and a Bovril and get some heat into their bodies.

Half Time – Kilmarnock 0 Livingston 0

Livingston replaced Dorado with Camacho at half time, a move that was to turn out to be a masterstroke by the Livingston management team.

Marvin Andrews could have opened the scoring for Livi two minutes into the second half when he was put through with the goalkeeper, but Dubourdeau got to the ball first, but the Killie number one was injured in the accidental challenge with Marv. Dubourdeau did manage to recover after several minutes on the deck.

Livingston took the lead in the 50th minute when Pasquinelli crossed and a great ball to Camacho, who squeezed the ball inside the goalies right-hand post, much to the delight of the Livingston support. A great goal from Livingston’s point of view, and Pasquinelli has shown once again why Livingston should give him an extended contract now.

Kilmarnock had a great chance to draw level minutes after Livi took the lead when substitute Gary McSwegan played the ball through to Kris Boyd in the box but he fired just wide of the target. A let off for Livi, but again some poor finishing from Kilmarnock.

Kilmarnock were now the better side, and Dindeleux should have done better when he had a chance out side the Livi box, but the Killie midfielder saw his Volley fire wide of the Livingston goal.

Pasquinelli was turning the Killie defenders outside in and he brilliantly crossed the ball in the 72nd minute, but Derek Lilley should have read the Pasquinelli’s play better, but the former Dundee United man was nowhere near the ball and the ball was easily cleared by the Kilmarnock defence.

Livingston all but killed of Killie’s hopes of getting anything from the match with ten minutes to go when Fernando Pasquinelli picked up the ball inside the box after Stuart Lovell miss-kicked the ball and Fernando fired an unstoppable shot into the keeper’s left hand corner. A killer second, and the Killie supporters were beginning to get frustrated with their side.

Quino replaced the hard working Pasquinelli with five minutes to go.
.
Livingston were still hungry for more and David McNamee broke from the half way line, found Burton O’Brien, who turned Greg shields inside out and the Livi youngster hammered the ball into the back of the net to send the disappointingly poor Killie support heading for the exit. A great goal, and some fantastic play by David McNamee.

Afterwards, Davie Hay insists he is happy to continue as caretaker-boss at Livingston after their first SPL win since November 8.

He said: "I was sitting chatting to Dominic during the game and we have exchanged Christmas cards.

"There is no change as far as the caretaker-manager situation goes. I'm enjoying things as they are, especially when we get results like this.''

But, with the transfer window looming in January, Hay admits he is more likely to lose players than bring any new faces to Livingston.

He added: "One or two players could be leaving. We might bring someone in but I have no definite targets.

"I'm not 100% sure there will be new faces but there is an outside chance.''

Livi supporters were delighted with the scorekline yesterday: WULSONFORLIVI

The boys dun guid yesterday. Cr@p first half, where we just weren't at the races. Lucky to go in with a blank scoreline (cos Killie were almost as bad as us, and Roddy did his bit keeping them out).

Came out with a much better attitude, Camacho made a real difference (!!), and we were all over Killie by the end. It's amazing what a different team we are when we have a bit of confidence flowing through the team. Why can't we play like that all the time?

We needed those 3 points, and if we get another 3 against Aberdeen, it'll be a great way to end the year. There's still not a lot of room to breathe between 3rd and 11th, but we've got to be fairly content at this stage of the season?
