Livingston 0 Aberdeen 2 - Preston MUST go

Darren Mackie
Livingston slumped to a seventh straight defeat and stayed rooted to the bottom of the SPL table after a shoite & disgraceful performance at OUR HOME Almondvale.

Aberdeen got the perfect start with a goal from Richard Foster after just 37 seconds thanks to dire defending from Scott McLaughlin and to make things worse Darren Mackie added a second in the 21st minute to wrap up the points.

Both goals owed as much to Livingston's porous defence as Aberdeen's creativity.

The opener came from a Scott Morrison long ball that Scott McLaughlin failed to clear and allowed Foster to nip in and lash a dipping volley past the helpless Roddy McKenzie. I had just walked in at this point, and saw the ball getting rammed home, I felt like throttling the motionless Preston, who claimed that his players were up for the game, aye right, anymore of this crap and you have to go.

And they should have added second moments later when Mackie had plenty of room on the left, but there were no takers for his dangerous cross.

After 11 minutes Mackie turned Emmanuel Dorado to race clear and only an outstretched leg from pensioner Alan Kernaghan kept his cross away from the lurking Noel Whelan. If he is the best central defender we have, then we’re in soapy bubble.

Chris Clark and Foster were drafted in by Dons boss Jimmy “five bellies” Calderwood for their pace and they were a constant threat - and after 12 minutes Clark was just wide with a curling right foot effort. At this point the home support were witnessing a disgraceful performance from their team, and again, Preston was motionless, I’m pretty sure this muppet hasn’t got a clue about management, but I HOPE to god he proves us wrong if he is allowed to stay as manager of the club.

In a rare Livi attack, after 13 minutes, Colin McMenamin had a glorious when he found space in the 6-yard box, but his tame header was easily saved by Preece, for the only save the visiting keeper was to make all afternoon. Colin should have buried this chance, but the Lions are seriously lacking confidence at the moment, and it showed throughout the game.

Aberdeen's second came in the 21st minute and it was another defensive nightmare for the Almondvale side.

Whelan floated a cross from left to right to find Scott Severin in space. The former Hearts man's low shot was weak but McKenzie could only get one hand to it and with no Livi defenders even close, Mackie had the easiest of
tasks to stab home from close range.

Half time – Livingston 0 Aberdeen 2

Six minutes from the break, the only player that gave a not bad performance David McNamee fired in a teasing cross that beat the Dons' defence but Derek Lilley - summing up Livi's afternoon - swiped at the ball and fell over trying to make contact.

McMenamin wasted a chance after 68 minutes when he got space on the right but his low cross was easily cut out, while moments later Substitute Jim Hamilton fired in a cross from the left that eluded everyone as Livi struggled to make an impact.

McMenamin's frustration showed with two lunges at Phil McGuire and he was lucky only to receive a talking to from the blind referee John Underhill.

Although in control Aberdeen didn't create too many chances, but Clark came close with a free-kick from the edge of the area after Mackie was tugged back (a free kick given by the Aberdeen supporters), while Severin also came close with a long-range effort in injury-time.

Another shocking display by the team, not fight, no team spirit, no leadership, the manager seems to have lost the plot, and we now feel, after giving Preston the benefit of the doubt over the last 7 games, that it’s now becoming unacceptable for him to carry on being the manager of our club. Relegation is now a major worry for Livingston FC, and the people upstairs need to have a serious look at the situation, instead of laughing and joking in their comfy boardroom after the match, when the supporters are hurting like hell in the cold outside.
