This was a double success for Kilmarnock who finished the match with 11 players after having three sent off last week.

Livingston enjoyed more possession, especially in the second half, but they rarely looked like cancelling out Kris Boyd's 42nd minute goal and will need to be more ruthless in Thursday's UEFA Cup qualifier with FC Vaduz.

Kilmarnock's new look line-up took some time to settle and they could have been behind within the opening ten minutes.

Striker Rolando Zarate, who made such a big impression on his debut earlier this month, sidefooted the ball straight into the hands of Gordon Marshall and the Killie keeper then saved a mediocre drive from captain Stuart Lovell after the initial effort from Francisco Quino had been blocked.

Finally, the visitors got moving and in the 16th minute right-back Greg Shields sneaked in behind his marker, but failed to find the target with a curling left-footed chip.

An excellent headed clearance by Freddy Dindeleux saved Killie from a dangerous David Bingham cross and they went on to finish the first half in style.

A looping header by Ally Mitchell almost got the better of goalkeeper Javier Sanchez Broto, but seconds later the Spaniard was well beaten when Boyd gathered an inch-perfect pass from Craig Dargo before steering it into the corner of the net.

Livingston came back strongly after half time and some marvelous wing play from Cherif Tuore Maman almost created an equalizer for Eugene Dadi and Lovell then hammered a low left-foot shot far too close to Marshall.

Livi manager Jim Leishman was typically prepared to go for broke in an attempt to save the game and soon introduced all three substitutes.
